Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp

Founded in 1966 and located in the Manistee National Forest of Michigan, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is a summer community of the fine arts. Our primary goal is to motivate our campers with two weeks of intensive instruction and send them home with an incentive to pursue their art with new enthusiasm. Blue Lake serves over 5,200 campers during its summer operation. 180 staff positions are available for college students with interest and aptitude in working with young people.

Cabin counselors: June 22-August 23, salary $1,400 to $2,300 (based on experience) plus room, board, and performing opportunities.
Duties include: living with 10-12 campers, eating with your assigned cabin, supervise clean-up details, plan recreational and social activities, work 15-20 hours a week at a specific work assignment, and consistently evaluate and act on all campers’ special needs, problems, and concerns.
Work assignments include the following assistantships: visual art, piano, jazz, dance, choir, band, orchestra, theater, harp, life guarding, recreation, stage crew, music library.
Opportunities include: performing experience in Faculty-Staff ensembles, recitals, and solo competition; meeting professional faculty from across the county; gaining experience in counseling, performing, and possibly teaching.

Performing experience for college musicians: vocalists, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxes, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, harp. Musicians have the opportunity to perform with faculty in the Blue Lake Festival Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir, or chamber ensembles as part of their assignment. Teaching positions with junior campers are available for those who qualify. Placement based on recorded audition.
