Director Judy Harder has announced that “The Crucible” is the selection for the spring drama to be presented in the Tabor College Lab theater April 11-13.

Arthur Miller’s acclaimed “The Crucible” is the story of ordinary people caught up in a universal tragedy. Set in the context of the 17th century, the play follows the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts, a town torn apart by fear, vengeance, and hysteria. In the midst of the chaos, John Proctor, a common farmer, faces his flaws and failures and struggles toward personal integrity.
On one level, “The Crucible” is about politics and the way history repeats itself. On another, it is the journey of a husband and wife dealing with betrayal and brokenness in their community as well as within themselves. It is a story of a search for truth, goodness and redemption.

Tickets are limited for each performance and will be available for purchase from the Student Life Office. The show starts at 7:30 each evening. General admission is $6 and student tickets are $4.

The Tabor College theater department will be presenting another show this spring. Director Judy Harder has announced a Spring Theater Production of “Another Antigone” scheduled for April 26 and April 28.

The show spotlights a seasoned college professor, Henry Harper, who will be played by Tabor’s own professor of English, Dr. Chris Dick. After years of teaching literary classics at a New England university, Professor Henry Harper, is not surprised by much, and particularly not by students who want to rewrite Greek masterpieces to reflect current sociopolitical concerns.

So when Judy Miller, a gifted student played by Ashley Bird, announces she intends to submit an updated version of Sophocles’s “Antigone” in place of the formal paper he has assigned, Professor Harper is adamant in his refusal. Judy, who needs the credit from Harper’s course to graduate, is as stubborn as her professor, and tensions begin to mount.

David Appleton, Judy’s boyfriend, will be played by Nolan Dirks and Maria Loewen will play Diana Eberhart, the Academic Dean of the Humanities Department.

Performances will take place in the Tabor College Theater Lab located in the lower level of Lohrenz 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28. Seating is limited. Call the Student Life Office 620-947-3121 Extension 1033 to reserve tickets. General Admission: $5.

Suggested cutline: Nolan Dirks, Dr. Chris Dick, Maria Loewen and Ashley Bird will perform “Another Antigone” in the Tabor College Theater lab on the Tabor College campus April 26 and April 28.
